LASC NEWSLETTER*JANUARY AT LASC*

The weather at the time of this newsletter, looks to be rainy on Saturday but sunny and cool on Sunday with the possibility of light drizzle. Those who wish to shoot this weekend will need to keep their eye on the weather.

CHRISTMAS DINNER – THANK YOU'S

LASC had a fabulous Christmas Dinner thanks to the talents of JR, who cooked a superb prime rib, sauces and Key lime and pecan pies; Val Shaver, who skillfully carved the roasts; Jacques, who shared several bottles of red wine; and Jeannette and her

crew who prepared the sides and did the serving and clean up. Thank you each and everyone for making the dinner a totally enjoyable club event.
We were also lucky to have Dave and Patsy Silva come up from Yuma to enjoy the festivities with us.

**LASC APRIL REGIONAL MATCH**

SAVE THE DATES of

APRIL 27, 28, 29 & 30th 2023

LASC will NOT be hosting the State Lever-Action rifle Silhouette championship in 2023 (we will again in

2024). So, LASC plans on hosting a Regional lever-action silhouette championship about a month before the state championship in Hat Creek. LASC will have match details and the confirmed dates of the regional match in the February newsletter – STAY TUNED!!

Get your guns together, come to LASC in April 2023 and practice to for the state championship in May 2023.

Club Updates

Jim Henry was planning on being at LASC on Saturday. I think with the rain in the forecast, we will not be seeing Jim until the February two-day match.

**
BIG BORE MATCH SET-UP: Club members can help out on Friday, the 13th with setting up the range for the two-day match. NOTE: Due to the weather forcasts, please contact Jerry for the time of range set-up before coming out to LASC. Your help is needed but the time may vary. (Otherwise JR and Jerry are setting up

the range by themselves.) We will also need members to help in setting up the required club tables, chairs, covers, etc.

AND, please stay after the match on Sunday to help break down the range and especially pick up the targets. The more hands we have, the faster it goes.

If you can assist, please let Jerry Napier know by Thursday so he can give you the latest information on timing.

February News Letter

Happy Valentine’s Day!

**Welcome to the February Newsletter**

LASC is looking for input from club members and shooters about items, information, articles or links they would like to see in upcoming newsletters. Please send an email to Jerry Napier at the AOL address if you have suggestions of items that might of interest to silhouette shooters and you would like to see in the newsletter.

**The January Big-Bore Weekend**

The two-day match was sparse at best due to the wet weather on both days. Match time was cut short, and, as you can see by the January report below, not many people shot through at the match. Since February looks to be great weather, time to get out and make up for the guns you didn’t get to shoot in January. I know “The Super Bowl” is on Sunday, but there is all day Saturday and Sunday morning to spend at LASC.

May News Letter

image002.jpg

**Welcome to the May Newsletter**

We had a great turnout on Saturday at the April Match, but Sunday, being Easter, only had one shooter show up!!!   The weather was wonderful but the Sunday holiday cut the number of attendees.

REMINDER!

Due to Mother’s Day this coming Sunday, May 14th, the Sunday (only) portion of the two-day match will be cancelled.  As mentioned in the prior email notification about the cancellation, the club range will be open on Sunday, May 14th for those who are cleared to shoot on non-match Sundays.  Check-in protocol must be followed.

**LASC’s April 28, 29 and 30 Regional Lever-Action Rifle Silhouette Match**

LASC’S Regional Lever-Action Match was a shooting success!  We have so many people to thank who made the event possible.  But here’s a shout out to just a few:

Dennis Ostler, who coordinated the match, kept the scores each day, did the daily awards, helped others shoot and photographed the event.  To see pictures of the event, click on the link below.

Gordon Hull, who spent the entire prior week at LASC on property, welding and getting our targets ready, cleaning the range and anything else to help LASC get look its best.  He also called the line during the match.

Jerry Napier and Joe Cadenas, who did the major work in prepping the range, the club, and keeping everything running smoothly, including the target setters (who did a terrific job and kept the shooters happy).

Ruby Cadenas who tracked all the attendees and payments, Joel Mosher who called the line, Jeanette and Courtney and the kitchen crew who kept the food coming and shooters well fed.  Forgive me if I have missed a few, but a BIG LASC “THANK YOU” to all those who made our match a success!

***ANNOUNCEMENTS***

**Jim Henry WILL be at LASC on Saturday.

**The EXTRAVAGANZA of Silhouette is coming up over Labor Day.  TIME TO GET YOUR GUNS READY and decide what you will shoot.  All the guns you can shoot over the three-day event.  Plan to come out, camp, stay and play.**

**IMPORTANT - LASC MEMBERS WHO SHOOT ON SUNDAYS:  ASR is noticing that some members who are cleared to shoot at LASC on open Sundays, are not stopping at the ASR office (if the ASR office trailer is locked, you must then go to the main range office), checking in, signing the release form and paying the $7 ASR fee.  All those going to LASC on the non-match Sundays must follow that procedure prior to going on up to club’s range.  ASR is aware of those violating the protocol because the staff checks LASC on Sundays, and has asked that we inform club members that this should not be happening and must be corrected immediately.

**OPEN FRIDAYS REMINDER:  LASC is open on two Fridays a month for sighting in and target practice for club members:  The Friday before the two-day Big Bore match and the Friday before the .22 match.  We encourage our members to come up and utilize the range at this time so we can demonstrate to ASR that the club members benefit and use those two open practice days.

If you do come to LASC on an open Friday, you must first register at the ASR office, sign the release form, and, if not a shareholder, pay the required $7 ASR fee for shooting at LASC.  (Same protocol as open Sundays.)

**WORK PARTY “THANK YOU’s**
To all the club members and shooters who came out on Saturday before the two-day match to help clean up the range and get it ready for the Big Bore weekend, a BIG LASC THANK YOU!  REMEMBER:  When you attend a work party, you can stay afterward and practice.

DENNIS “MOOSE” EDWARDS

A REMINDER to save the date of July 15th to pay our respects to our fellow LASC shooter,  Moose.

Ms. Lee Edwards (Moose’s wife) will have a celebration of Moose’s life on JULY 15th in the afternoon at the DeBell Golf Course in Burbank.  The time has yet to be announced.  The DeBell Golf Course is on the hillside in Burbank, near the Castaway Restaurant.

Now, for what we found in the women’s restroom when the weeds on the firing line had been freshly cut and the door to the restroom was left propped open.

A nesting female made a lovely nest just behind the toilet paper role in the holder.  When so much available fresh-cut grass, there was ample material to make a perfect little comfy place to hold eggs behind the toilet role.  But, no eggs yet, thankfully.  When we opened the front of the paper holder, the second picture is what it looked like from the inside. Very well crafted in a short time for a determined bird.  Needless to say, there was grass and straw and pieces of paper all on the floor.  Sadly she had to be evicted and the restroom door remained closed.  I trust she found a more suitable external place for her nest.

November 2023

November News Letter

**OCTOBER TWO-DAY MATCH RESULTS, THE ANNUAL CLUB MEETING WRAP-UP and AN IMPORTANT EVENT RETURNS TO LASC IN 2024**

LASC had it annual club meeting after the match ended on Saturday.  We did not have enough members attend for a voting quorum.  Members who did attend discussed issues that will impact all club members.  A notice will be sent to the club membership shortly outlining the changes. In the notice will be information about increases in the club membership fees effective January 1, 2024.

The current club leadership (President, Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer) was kept in place.

If you are a member of LASC, renewal notices will be sent around at the beginning of the year and we encourage all members to renew.  If you shoot at LASC and are not a member, please consider joining which helps keep our club membership numbers solid.

LASC needs to expand it membership, and there were productive ideas about club growth discussed during the meeting.  We appreciate any input and suggestions about how to expand our shooting base.  LASC is a premiere facility, and the word needs to be spread.

The October two-day match had great weather, but we had a low attendance for such nice shooting conditions.  And, of those who did come up to play, many did not stay for our annual meeting.

This coming weekend, the weather looks to be warmish and perfect for this time of year.  Since daylight hours are now shorter, we suggest you get there early and shoot as many cards as you can.  Each card helps LASC.

**THANKSGIVING LUNCH NOTICE FOR SATURDAY!**

On Saturday, November 11—which is also Remembrance Day.

LASC will celebrate Thanksgiving by serving shooters a free Thanksgiving lunch featuring turkey with all the trimmings and dessert.  Come to LASC, shoot and celebrate Thanksgiving with club members.

THREE IMPORTANT POINTS ABOUT COMPLETING SCORE CARDS:

1. SCORE RANKINGS:

Since there are no more NRA scorebooks, shooters may not know their score class rank (e.g., Master, AAA or other class).  A shooter can ask others if they have an old NRA scorebook in which to check.  At the match we are going to try and post the Score/Class breakdown of each discipline.  REMINDER:  You do need to circle your rank on your score card.

2. SHOOTING A “RERUN”

If you shoot the same discipline a second time in one competition, please mark your second score card “RERUN.”  Only the first run-through will be considered for your score, but the “rerun” will be noted on the match results.

3. COMPLETING A SCORE CARD

Please fully complete your score cards when you turn them in.  Some get turned in with missing dates, gun make and caliber, class and discipline. You may omit your address, but we do need the rest of the information to accurately record your competition.

*********

LASC NEEDS CLUB MEMBER’S HELP!

We will be setting up the range Friday morning December 8 at 9AM. If you are able, please come help as we set up the range for the competition.  Shooters assisting may stay and practice.
