LASC Big Bore Match Report
For January 11th and 12th, 2020

I was not present for the match this month, so the weather report for these days is missing. It looks like we had a small IHMSA match alongside a large NRA match. There was a total of fifty entries posted (fourteen IHMSA and thirty-six NRA). There was only one 40 this match and it was posted by an unclassified shooter in Small Bore UAS, Logan Goddard. He also got two shoot-off targets. Very nice shooting for the first time.
There were two lady shooters: Karen Bailey shot NRA Small Bore and short‑course lever action; Brigette Hahn shot IHMSA Unlimited Standing. It is nice to see lady shooters. Now if we can get a few juniors to round out the field that would be a home run.
It looks like the NRA rifle shooters are getting ready for the state NRA lever- action match in May. There were twenty-six lever action rifle, eight NRA rifle, and two NRA hunter pistol score cards posted. Boris Sorkin lead the way with two 35s: One in Long-Range lever action and one in Small Bore lever action. He also posted a 31 in short-course lever action. Very fine shooting!

February 2020 Match Report
LASC Big Bore Match Report
For February 8th and 9th, 2020

The February match had twenty-one IHMSA pistol entries, and twenty-eight NRA entries (two hunter pistol and twenty-six rifle) for a total of forty-eight entries. Al Roberts shot a 40x40+1 in Unlimited winning the Big Bore match. Val Shaver had a 40x40+2 in Unlimited winning the Small Bore match. These were the only 40s shot. High lady was Brigette Hahn shooting 19 in Unlimited Standing.
Boris Sorkin posted a very nice 35 in NRA lever action pistol cartridge to take High Rifle. High lady in NRA rifle was Karen Bailey who posted 28 in NRA Small Bore lever action.

LASC Big Bore Match Report

It’s good to be shooting again even though we had a small turnout at this match (and after a long awaited absence). Not sure why, maybe the heat or the virus. We had a total of twenty eight guns cycle through (ten pistol and eighteen rifles). There were two 40’s shot, both shot in Unlimited Any Sight, and Boris Sorkin had a very nice 37 in Small Bore rifle scoped.
Hope to see you next match. By the way, the bathrooms are working. No more port-a-potties. We are unable to
use the clubhouse due to the social distancing requirement until the Health Department/Government gives the okay, but we are still cooking lunches. No issue there as we comply with the county’s orders and everyone remembers to safely distance themselves while eating at tables.

For August 8th and 9th, 2020

We had another slow turn out for the August match. The weather was perfect in the mid-80s and just a hint of a breeze. It was a small pistol match (sixteen entries) and a little better rifle match (twenty-three entries) for a total of thirty nine cards turned in. There was two 40a, both in Practical Hunter. Ted Matthies won the Big Bore with a 32 in Production, J.R. won Smallbore in Unlimited 38, and Boris Sorkin won Long Range Cowboy Lever Action with 36.
The next Big Bore match will be The Extravaganza. It will be a three-day match (Friday through Sunday) with Thursday open for practice all day. Come out and have some fun!
All the California corona virus protocols are in place at LASC. Every other bay is blocked and masks are worn on the firing line. The restrooms are open and clean and the food is behind Plexiglass. I want to thank Faye and Pam for their excellent work for the food prep and service, and keeping our shooters safe and fed, which is no small feat. We could not survive without these ladies.
