January 2018 Match Report
Now that the clean-up is done, it is time to start rebuilding. The best thing we can do is start participating in the monthly matches and shooting more guns. The more we shoot the more money comes in, plus we get some normalcy back and have fun. We still have a GO FUND ME account (https://www.gofundme.com/rebuilding-lasc-club-house-range), and we are striving to make our goal. Please keep spreading the word. There is a long way to go, and I know we will recover completely. The wild fire burned down our buildings, but not our club spirit. LASC WILL SURVIVE!!!
Now with that said, we had 44 shooters (21 IHMSA, 23 NRA). I broke it down to 19 rifle, 5 practical hunter, 4 field pistol, 2 half scale, 6 small bore, and 8 big bore entries. Not bad for a burned-out club. There were five (!) 40’s: JR (2), Val Shaver (1), Jerry Napier (1), and Lee Markham (1). Great shooting to all the competitors and I hope to see you in February.
A note about score cards: Please fill-in your complete name, the gun make and caliber, the category and your score. If you do not, you will not get credit for what you shot during the match.

February 2018 Match Report
LASC Big Bore Match Report
FEBRUARY 10 & 11, 2018
By Dennis “Moose” Edwards
We had a nice turnout for our match this weekend. We missed our West End rifle shooters but it was very nice to see our friends from up north. There were only 13 IHMSA pistol shooters, 4 NRA pistol, and 11 NRA rifle, for a total of 45 shoot-throughs. Val Shaver had a very nice weekend shooting three 40’s, winning Big Bore with a 40 and 4 shoot-off targets. He did this with cast bullets. He also shot a 40+5 in practical hunter short course and 40 in long course. Dennis Edwards (me) had a 40 and 3 shoot-off targets in Unlimited Any Sight. Al Roberts had a 40 and 2 shoot-off targets in small bore open sight to win Small Bore. Dan Hagerty shot a 40 and 3 shoot-offs in Unlimited any sight in Small Bore. Very nice shooting!!!
REMINDER about score cards: Please fill-in your complete name, the gun make and caliber, the category and your score. If you do not, you will not get credit for what you shot during the match.

March 2018 Match Report
LASC Big Bore Match Report
March 10 & 11, 2018
By Dennis “Moose” Edwards
Cold, wet, and a bit breezy were the conditions on Saturday. It was a little better on Sunday. The turnout was small. We had four big bore, two ½-scale, nine small bore, two practical hunter, three field pistol, and nineteen rifle shooters for a total of thirty nine guns. Val Shaver won Big Bore and JR won Small Bore. The high rifle score was turned in by Karen Baileybut it was a rerun so high rifle was Loren Greenwell. We had a new shooter this month and we want to welcome him to our range Jacques Rifkind who shot two rifle scores of 23. Not too bad for the first time!
You need to sign up for the California State Lever-Action Rifle Silhouette State Championship (aka Cowboy Match) in May as soon as possible. There is a lot of out-of-state interest, and if you want a spot it would be smart to sign up early. Remember it is on the three-day Memorial Day weekend, May 26, 27 and 28th. You can get a sign-up sheet by going to:www.shootingsteel.com. Jerry Napier or Karen Bailey have all the information. Don’t miss out!
LASC dues are now past due. The dues are $60 for the year. We need your participation. This will help to get our range back together. Our Go Fund Me page is still open, and any extras will be helpful. Our club house needs to be rebuilt, the firing-line embankment needs to be rebuilt, and we need a temporary club house for shelter. (Jerry Napier and Karen Bailey are working on that.) We have no permanent showers or toilets and the kitchen is under a tent. Jerry is and has been working very hard to get things back to normal so we can all enjoy or club facility. Saturday work parties are also a great way to help. LASC cannot work without you pitching in; so, please help anyway possible.

April 2018 Match Report
May 2018 Match Report
LASC Big Bore Match Report
May 12th & 13th, 2018
By Dennis “Moose” Edwards
It was a gloomy week-end with some moisture on Sunday. But, that did not stop our shooters from having a great match. There were plenty of 40's and the Big Bore boys were kind of showing off. There were four in the international division Big Bore alone, with Eric King coming on top with four shoot-off targets. This also made him the match winner in big bore. Jerry Napier posted a 40 in Small Bore UAS and his team mate J R won Small Bore with a 36 in Unlimited. Two more 40's posted in Practical Hunter, Val Shaver and yours truly. JR had a very nice 38 in Half Scale. He was clean going into his last bank of rams. On the rifle side of things, Steve Alarcon shot a 31 in cowboy lever gun getting all 10 chickens and becoming the rifle match winner. Very nice shooting guys.
There was a total of 46 guns shot with 27 pistol and 19 rifles. There was seven 40s with Val Shaver having two, Eric King, Jerry Ray, Al Roberts, Jerry Napier, and myself, having one each. Sure looks like some are getting ready for the Internationals in July, and the rifle guys for the California Lever Action State match.
A NOTE ABOUT SCORE CARDS: Please fill your cards out completely and legibly when you turn them in. There were quite a few cards with no necessary information except name and number of animals hit. I cannot put you in the right category and you will not get proper recognition for your efforts if you don’t put your model of gun and the class. There is a list of shooters on the bottom of the report who failed to fill out their card correctly.L

LASC Big Bore Match Report
June 9th and 10th, 2018
By Dennis “Moose” Edwards
The LASC Extravaganza is right around the corner, and the annual club meeting is Saturday after shooting is completed on October 13 (usually about 4:30 pm). Please be there for both the two-day match and to participate in the annual LASC October meeting. Our club needs a quorum so we can finalize the decisions that our club sets for the following year. We also nominate and elect officers, set new club rules and conduct business vital to the club. It’s very important you attend to keep our club healthy.
My wife, Lee, has donated a T-shirt quilt (at the top of the newsletter) she put together to help raise money for the devastating fire that burned down LASC's stat and club house. I gave her a pile of LASC Extravaganza tees that I acquired over the years and she made a very nice quilt out of them. Jerry Napier has the quilt and I believe he will be auctioning (or raffling) it off at the Extravaganza. I want to thank my wife for her time and effort she put into this project.
The weather was perfect for shooting silhouettes. It was in the low 80's with a very gentle breeze. There was a total of thirty-one IHMSA, and twenty six NRA guns shot through. Plenty of great scores including six 40's. Jim Harris was the Big Bore match winner and J R Small Bore winner. Both shot 40's in their discipline. The NRA rifle winner was Boris Sorkin with a very nice 35 in cowboy small bore.

July 2018 Match Report
LASC Big Bore Match Report
July 14th & 15th, 2018
By Dennis “Moose” Edwards
We had a very small July match. There was three new shooters (Ethan Chan, Austin Chau and Jason Ye) that were shooting complimentary NRA .22 rifle. I did not meet them, but I did see that they were having a good time shooting at the small bore targets. LASC and I hope you guys come back and shoot with us again.
There were sixteen NRA rifles shot, two NRA hunter pistols and eighteen IHMSA pistols shot for a total of thirty six guns. We had two 40s, both in practical hunter.
The weather was in the mid-nineties and with the world championship going on, that must be the reason the turn-out was so low. Also Jim and Fay were missing (Faye had to take care of her ailing niece) and Karen had a bad case of bronchitis. Jerry Napier dropped a metal bar on his foot, so he too was out of commission. Jacques Rifkind was traveling outside of the country. I hope the missing and ill are getting better and ready to return for next match.

August 2018 Match Report
LASC Big Bore Match Report
August 11th and 12th, 2018
By Dennis “Moose” Edwards
It was a nice weather for shooting in the low 90s with just a breath of wind. It was nice to see John and Judy Zumwalt from the Fresno-area, and Mike and Meg Dewey with their clan, and, of course, all the regulars. We had one new shooter, Terri Mayo shooting with the Deweys. She shot NRA rifle and posted a very nice score of 14. Not bad for the first time. Terri, please come back and shoot again; you are always welcome.
This was the last Big Bore match before the annual LASC Extravaganza. This year’s four-day Extravaganza started on Friday, August 31st and ended on Monday, September 3rd, with Thursday the 30th being an open day for practice. If you didn’t make it this year, plan on coming next year to join us; we shoot anything and everything (almost), and it's truly a ball. Great friends, great food, and great shooting!!!
There were twenty-six pistol and twenty-three rifles shot (eight Field Pistols, two ½ Scale, one Practical Hunter, nine Big Bore, six Small Bore and twenty-three NRA rifles). There were five 40s: Jerry Napier (2), Al Roberts (1), Val Shaver (1) and yours truly (1). Jerry shot his 40s in Unlimited Any Sight Big Bore and Unlimited Any Sight Small Bore, and yours truly shot his in Unlimited Any Sight ½ Scale. Al Roberts (40) won Big Bore over Val Shaver (40) by shooting three shoot-off targets to Val’s two targets in Unlimited. Val won the Small Bore Match with a 36 in Unlimited. Mike Takaki won the NRA Rifle Match posting a very nice 37. He missed a chicken, a turkey and a ram. Great shooting to all!

It was a great four days of shooting at the Extravaganza this year. The weather was perfect, in the low 90s on Friday and high 80s the rest of the days. It was nice to see some old friends show up to have fun at our range. There was plenty of food, fun and camping to go along with the shooting. We shot the black-powder cannon off after the Saturday match, and I want to tell you the satellite dish did not have a chance. Landen’s good aim center punched it on his second shot. By the way his first shot was high and left but hit the dish.
I want to thank all the folks that made this match work. Ramon and Joe and all the young Marines for the target setting. Without them we would be setting our own targets. They did a hell of a great job. All the folks that cooked and cleaned: Joyce, Fay, Meg and her clan, Karen, great job! Jim Henry for all the gun work and repairs, Jerry, JR , Dennis Robinson and all the volunteers for getting the range in spectacular shape. Dennis Osler for the trophies and, of course, all the shooters who had to travel to get here. If I missed anyone please forgive me it was not my intention to do so.
The shooting was at its finest, with plenty of 40s! Steve Hannawacker stole the show with Big and Small Bore Three-Gun and Four-Gun Aggregates, ½ Scale Aggregate, High Senior, Iron Man and a 40x40 with all five shoot-off targets in Production. Eric King got the Dragon Slayer Trophy. Tony Tello took most all the rifle trophies with some very fine standing scores.

It was kind of dark and damp this week-end but it did not rain. This kept our shooters at bay but there was enough people to make a quorum for the yearly meeting. There was plenty of new business to discuss and I am sure there will be a news letter out to fill us all in. I can tell you that all the officers were re-elected for next year.
There was a total 30 guns posted ( 10 big bore, 3 small bore, 1 hunter pistol, and 16 NRA rifles) very small match, must have been the weather. There were a total of 3 forties, all open sighted guns.
Jim Harris had an excellent ½ scale agg. 77, posting a 40 in unlimited and a 37 in unlimited any sight. He did this with his open sight Rampro in 6.5 BR, He followed up his forty with four shoot off targets to win the big bore match. By the way I over heard Jim say that this was his 102 open sight forty in ½ scale. WOW!. Val Shaver and Ted Matthies posted forties in unlimited. Al Roberts won small bore posting a 31 in revolver. The NRA rifle high gun was Boris Sokin In small bore cowboy. Great shooting guys!!!

The two days of shooting turned into one day due to the winds on Sunday. Winds were gusting from 45 to 50 miles per hour and blowing all the targets over. Pretty harsh conditions for shooting. There was a few die-hard shooters Sunday, but most stopped and went home around noon. I planned on shooting standing and after five sighters decided it was not going to happen. Al Roberts did post a 40 with 4 shoot-off targets on Sunday in UAS. There was three open‑sight 40s posted on Saturday (Val Shaver had two and Ted Matthies one), and Eric King had an open-sight 35 in Unlimited 1/5th scale. We had a very small turnout with only twenty guns shot (nine Big Bore, four Small Bore, one Practical Hunter, two Field Pistol and four NRA Rifle).

The last big bore match of 2018 has come and gone. We had perfect weather this week end and the shooting conditions were at its best. I was glad to see Dave and Patsy Silva from South Dakota and Eric King from Berkeley Ca. come shoot with us (Dave and Eric shot very well), not a wasted trip.
There was an old face from the past Adreian Jaroslavia post a very nice 23 in UAS, I hope to see you start shooting with us again .A total of 58 guns posted scores (32 pistols-27 rifles) with 5 being 40s.
Saturday night wing ding was one of the best we've had (mixing J R and Joes birthdays along with our Xmas dinner). There was prime rib and grilled shrimp with all the fixens topped of with birthday cake and key lime pie. I want to thank all the cooks for the food (it was yummy). The dinner was served in our new club house, with heat and air condition I might add. I want to thank Jerry Napier and Joe for all their hard work getting the club house in order. It is a work in progress with lots of potential.
Lots of thanks go out for all hard work that made our club successful for 2018. The fires put a real strain on the club and it was a struggle . I want to thank ASR, and all the donors for their financial help. A special thanks to Ramone and Joe for the target setters, Dennis Osler for the printing and trophies, Jim Henry for gun repair, all the officers for keeping us on the right track, Karen Bailey for the monthly report, Pam and Fay for the food (without them we would all starve to death) and all the shooters. I do believe 2019 will be just as successful, lets start by bringing a friend to shoot with us. Do not forget to renew your dues for 2019, these funds are used to keep lasc going.
